The Montclair Foundation (TMF) has awarded $75,000 in grant funding to organizations that support and enhance the quality of life and vibrancy of Montclair and its environs. Funds raised during the December Board of Trustee Challenge Match increased grant support by 50% for this Spring grant cycle. This was made possible by the generous support of community contributions and committed TMF Trustees. “Twenty-eight nonprofits applied this spring. Through the strategic evaluation and due diligence of our grants committee, fourteen local nonprofits were awarded larger grants, said Peggy Murphy-Deehan, Trustee and Grants Committee Chair. These grants will provide greater impact and ensure that our community has access to the resources they need.” Every year, TMF’s grantmaking goal is to provide funding for a range of programs serving the community. This spring’s grant recipients focus on several key areas: Human Services/Mental Health – Community members which help meet basic needs Education – Community members which provide the academic, social, and financial support needed for all to succeed Seniors & Vulnerable Populations – Older adults and persons with special abilities are helped to achieve and maintain a high quality of life Arts, Culture & Community Resources – Community members benefit from Montclair’s cultural, recreational, and other community resources Learn more about the exceptional organizations that have been supported through these grants. Human Services/Mental Health Human Needs Food Pantry – Provides food, clothing, and services to those in need. Grant will fund fresh protein. www.humanneedsfoodpantry.org Northeast Earth Coalition, Inc. – Provides food assistance through Free Little Pantries, community gardens, and delivery. Grant will help fund volunteer coordinators who oversee its food distribution locations and community gardens. www.neearth.org Family Promise of Essex County – Provides shelter, social services, and housing assistance for the homeless. Grant will support its Prevention and Diversion program. www.fpessexnj.org Education Succeed2gether – Provides free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring. Grant will help fund the hire of staff members to implement a new specialized program that addresses the devastating educational impact of the pandemic on low-income families. www.succeed2gether.org. Montclair Scholarship Fund – Awards Scholarships to MHS college-bound students with financial needs. Grant will fund a one-year college scholarship. www.montclairscholarshipfund.org Montclair Local Nonprofit News – Community Newspaper of Montclair. Grant will fund a collaboration project between Montclair Local staff and MHS English faculty for students to learn about and report the local news. www.montclairlocal.news Neighborhood Child and Infant Care Center, Inc – Provides subsidized care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old preparing them to enter the public school system. Grant will furnish its newly designed outdoor play area. www.neighborhoodchildcare.net Seniors and Vulnerable Populations Connections at Home – Provides free, senior-friendly tablets or computers, wifi, training, and support for homebound seniors. Grant will support the purchase of tablets, tech support, and a part-time social worker for 27 housebound seniors in Montclair. www.cahnj.org Ethan and the Bean – Provides training and employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Grant will support equipment for their new, pre-vocational program: the Corner Coffee University. www.ethanandthebean.com Montclair Shared Housing Association – Owns and operates the Montclair Inn, which provides safe, affordable housing for independent seniors. Grant will fund new carpet and tile for the first floor and basement entryway. www.montclairinn.com Arts, Culture, and Community Service Jazz House Kids Inc. – Provides jazz and performance education for students, regardless of their financial circumstances. Grant will help fund the educational Family Jazz Discovery Zone at the 2023 Festival. www.jazzhousekids.org Vanguard Theater Company – Provides equitable training and performance opportunities for underserved artists and audiences. Grant will help fund training for young people to work in the theater, for joint programming with Out Montclair, and to increase audiences from the Fourth Ward. www.vanguardtheatercompany.org. Montclair Film Festival – Educates and engages through film. Grant will fund its Impact Film Series which provides free showings of specific films with relevant social issues for high school students to discuss with moderated experts. www.montclairfilm.org Outpost in the Burbs – Provides concerts and community outreach. Grant will help fund capital improvements for its community performances. www.outpostintheburbs.org In its 44 years of grantmaking, The Montclair Foundation has granted more than $2.9 million to nonprofit programs that strengthen the quality of life for all who live, work, and enjoy Montclair and its environs.
