April 23 – Spring Botanicals Watercolor Workshop – Instructor: Karen DeLuca: Learn the art of painting flowers and leaves in watercolors. Bring your own paints/brushes to class but we will have some to loan.
May 21 – What’s in Bloom Tour – Join Laura Roberts, Director of Horticulture at Van Vleck, for a journey through the beauty of the season. Discover enchanting details and appreciate majestic specimens. Outdoor tour, so please dress for the weather with appropriate footwear. (Outdoor Program, indoors if inclement weather)
May 28 – Focus on Flowers Walk – Spend an afternoon in the garden taking a close-up look at the beauty of flowers. After learning about each flower, discover helpful hints in capturing photos using your phone or camera. Instructors: Laura Roberts and Tracey Diamond (Outdoor Program, indoors if inclement weather)
June 4 – Birds of Prey Program – Flat Rock Brook Nature Center will visit Van Vleck with live birds of prey. Learn fascinating facts about these incredible creatures that live right here in New Jersey. (Indoor Program)
June 11 – Late Spring Blooming Tree tour – This guided tree identification walk led by Laura Roberts will focus on spring-blooming trees. This is an outdoor tour, so please dress for the weather with appropriate footwear. (Outdoor Program, indoors if inclement weather)
June 18 – Birds and Art – We’ll learn about some of our favorite resident birds at Van Vleck with Naturalist Jenny Aley and discuss their summer activities. We will also explore our creative side with a simple painting or sketching activity that will help us identify some of our beautiful native birds. No experience necessary – all levels of birders and artists welcome! (Indoor Program)
June 25th – Mindfulness in the Garden – Jodi Brooks will guide us through very gentle stretching & breathwork, and an outdoor contemplative garden walk. This is a practice of slowing down, cultivating quiet and paying attention to our senses. All levels are welcome. No experience needed. Cold or rainy weather – class will be held indoors, with a short walk outdoors (weather permitting). (Outdoor Program, indoors if inclement weather)
