George Derrick
George has been a principal in Langan Engineering & Environmental Services for 50 years. His career started as a geotechnical (soils) engineer after graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Cornell University. As his career unfolded George transitioned into the broader area of civil engineering known as land development engineering. He grew up in Bethpage, NY. George ended up in New Jersey after obtaining his Master’s degree and getting a job in Clifton. Soon thereafter he met Marge, his wife of 48 years. They have two children, Kirstin and Tim, and 5 granddaughters. They have lived in Montclair since 1973.
Growing up George had a passion for sports, mostly baseball, football and basketball. Now and for many years his sports passion has been golf. He has been a member of the member of the Montclair Golf Club since 1981 and has been actively involved with the Green, Master Plan and Construction Committees as well as the Board of Trustees.
On a professional level he is in the semi-working stage of his career which has allowed him more time for community involvement and a core principal of helping others. Being on the Board of Trustees has permitted to put to use his use experience in governance and construction to good use. Currently George is the TMF treasurer. He also serves on the House Committee and Development Committee.
George recognizes that the Montclair area has many great non-profits making the community better and they need the support of the Montclair Foundation to carry out their objectives.
