Modern Romantics Robert Cart, flutist, William Hobbs, pianist. Both are faculty at MSU Cali Music School.

Neo-romantic music by modern composers including, David Ludwig, Sergi Casanelles, Valerie Coleman, Jacques Ibert, and Sigfrid Karg-Elert. Though inspired by Mozart, Beethoven, Prokofiev, and the great French flute composers, Robert Cart recognizes the importance of contemporary composers to the future of Western music, and has commissioned and premiered new works. He made his solo flute debut at Carnegie Hall, became a Powell Flutes Artist, a Universal Edition composer and arranger of flute music, and a recording artist on solo flute albums for Albany and Centaur Records. He has also soloed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, played at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, and performed Borne’s Carmen Fantasy simultaneously as flute and tenor soloist with an orchestra of 125 players in Shanghai, China.
William Hobbs has performed in more than a dozen countries, including the United States, England, Korea, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Malta, Poland and others. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with many of today’s top performers, including Yo- Yo Ma, Ida Kavafian, James Galway, and many others. As collaborative pianist and conductor, Hobbs works at many of the world’s major opera houses, including the Opéra National de Paris, the Salzburg Festival, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Seattle Opera, Washington Opera, and the Opéra de Monte- Carlo.
There will be a limited amount of seats available for this performance and Members get priority registration. Only registered guests will be admitted (sign up here). Proof of Covid-19 vaccination and a photo ID must be presented at check in for admittance. Masks must be worn inside Van Vleck House.
