Calvin Trevenen April 16, 2024 by tracey During an extensive legal career, Cal Trevenen has counseled and represented numerous clients in transactional real estate matters; land use (planning & zoning) cases; industrial, commercial and residential tax appeal proceedings; and estate planning and estate administration matters. He is currently of Counsel to the law firm Spiro Harrison & Nelson, and a Partner of the Montclair Real Estate Law Group. Prior to that he served for over 15 years as managing partner of the Montclair law firm Ashenfelter, Trembulak, McDonough, Golia & Trevenen LLP. Earlier in his career he was a founding partner of the boutique tax appeal firm Garippa & Trevenen, where he represented numerous Fortune 500 clients in real estate tax appeals versus local government entities in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Before commencing his practice of law in 1979, Cal was a mortgage and commercial lending officer with Newark-headquartered Fidelity Union Trust Company. While attending law school he served as a senior officer with a real estate sales and property management firm. Over many years, he has served as pro bono legal counsel, as well as a board member and trustee, to numerous Montclair-area non-profit organizations. He is a past officer and trustee of the Partners for Health Foundation, and currently serves on the Capital Campaign Committee for the Montclair Foundation. Cal has served for 25 years as President of The Whitehill Foundation, a grant-making private foundation. Whitehill annually assists many non-profit entities in the greater-Montclair area with operating grants to assist those organizations in fulfilling their respective missions. Cal grew up and graduated high school in Kearny, NJ; obtained his B.A. degree in 1968 from Colgate University; earned his M.A. degree in public administration from Rutgers University in 1975; and utilized the G.I. Bill to obtain his law degree in 1979 from Seton Hall University School of Law. He has served previously as an elected Town Council member; has served as an appointed Planning Board member; and is a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army. Previously a 35-year resident of Montclair, Cal and his wife of 50 years, Michele, now reside in Little Falls, where Cal serves as vice president of the Board of Directors of the Reservoir Ridge Condominium Assn. They are the proud parents of 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
