The Montclair Foundation Awards $42,000 in Grants to Montclair Nonprofits

The Montclair Foundation has awarded $42,000 in grants to seven nonprofits that serve the Montclair community and beyond.
The Montclair Foundation nurtures growth in our community through support and grant giving to local nonprofits and the preservation of the historic Van Vleck House & Gardens. Grants are awarded twice annually to a wide variety of local nonprofits that make a big impact on small budgeted organizations in the arts, family services and underserved communities in Montclair.
“We’re proud to support so many outstanding programs and organizations working to strengthen the Montclair community, stated Deborah Hirsch, Chair of The Montclair Foundation grants committee. “There are so many worthy nonprofits that need our continued support.”
“This year we can clearly see that the need in the nonprofit community far outweighs our resources, but we’re doing what we can and we’re so thankful to all the donors who are stepping up to help bridge the gap as well,” added Charles Fischer, Executive Director of The Montclair Foundation/Van Vleck House & Gardens. “As local residents and businesses plan their year-end charitable contributions, we hope they will consider The Montclair Foundation so we can continue to expand our local grants program.”
Since its inception in 1973, The Montclair Foundation has awarded more than $2 million to over 85 nonprofits.
The Foundation would like to remind grant seekers that the deadline for spring grant opportunities is March 1, 2018.
- COPE CENTER INC
Project: Specialized Services for Children and Families, supporting COPE’s work and ability to help Montclair residents in great financial distress where services are clinically needed to enable them to maintain or improve their quality of lives.
- Montclair Art Museum
Project: Montclair Artlink, a program that allows the Museum to provide regular school visits for Montclair elementary school students. Support will help fund costs including admission, instructors’ fees, materials, teacher workshops and administrative costs.
- Montclair Film Festival
Project: Support for Capital Campaign to Build A New Home.
- The Montclair Orchestra
Project: Support for a children’s concert in January 2019.
- Opera Theatre Montclair
Project: Support for 2019 Opera Outreach, designed to make opera accessible to everyone in the community, regardless of their location, socioeconomic or education level through free programs to the public.
- Union Congregational Church/ Side Door
Project: Funds part-time activity and sports supervisors for the Friday drop-in program for Montclair middle school students.
- Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center
Project: Supports free admission to exhibitions and programs for all active and retired military service people.
